Twenty of us met at Simon and Jill’s for a meeting with a large part devoted to the memory of Ernest Woolford who died last year aged ninety nine. The meeting opened with Simon giving a talk on Ernest and his love for the piano and the music of Liszt. This was accompanied by recordings of Ernest playing Liszt and Bach-Busoni and a rolling display of photos supplied by Club members. Afterwards other members contributed their reminiscences of the Ernest and his unfailing kindness and encouragement, and of his courage in later years. A special page on the Club website will be set up later this year for members’ memories of Ernest.
After this the playing commenced on Simon and Jill’s Bösendorfer grand with the emphasis on music associated with Ernest.
Rain precluded us from venturing into the garden but there seemed to be plenty of space in the downstairs rooms for everyone to mill around and enjoy the buffet and drinks.
The next meeting, at Trinity URC in Waterford Rd, Henleaze will be the AGM and all members are encouraged to attend.
